There's a new set of numbers about to start showing up next to horror movies, and you're going to see them everywhere within a month. The Synthetic Motion Picture Ratings System went live this week at smprs.org, and Screamify is the first streaming platform to adopt it. Every Screamify Original is getting one.
It's an AI-disclosure rating. Six tiers, 0 through 5, low number means humans made it and high number means a machine did. Here's the whole scale, bottom to top.
SMP-0: Practical-Only. 0% AI. Live actors, real sets, human script, traditional post. No AI anywhere in the pipeline. The system calls this one the gold standard and the most prestigious certification for authentic filmmaking, and it gets the deep green badge. This is the flex tier.
SMP-1: Assisted Practical. Up to 15% AI. Live cast, practical sets, minor cleanup only. Think small set extensions and grammar passes on the script. Explicitly non-creative tweaks — AI is allowed to tidy, not to invent.
SMP-2: Enhanced Practical. 15–35% AI. Real cast plus digi-doubles. A practical core with AI backdrops behind it, AI handling VFX, color and audio, and up to 10% AI punch-ups on the script. Most big-studio genre movies are quietly living here already.
SMP-3: Augmented Hybrid. 35–60% AI. The tipping point. Human and synthetic support talent mixed together, LED and green-screen work plus AI assets, and a script that can be co-written up to half by AI. Major VFX and dialogue cleanup go to the machine.
SMP-4: Synthetic-Lean Hybrid. 60–85% AI. Your principal cast is still human. Almost everything behind them isn't. Most extras and doubles are synthetic, dubbing is allowed, environments are majority AI-generated, and the post pipeline is AI-first.
SMP-5: Fully Synthetic. 85–100% AI. Digital humans and creatures, AI voices, 100% AI sets and props, script and storyboards written entirely by AI, end to end. Purple badge. No humans on camera at all.
The obvious question: which one is Screamify putting on its own stuff? Both ends, apparently. Every Original gets a rating, and the first title with a public number is Multiverse, the fully AI-generated interdimensional-cable channel hitting the platform in October. It's going out as SMP-5.
One thing to know before the badges start showing up on posters: filmmakers certify their own films. You register the title, attest the info is accurate, pay $29.99, and get the rating and badge set. So the scale is precise and the enforcement is, for now, the honor system.
Screamify announced the whole thing Wednesday with a sizzle reel, a carousel and a 45-second explainer. No other platform has adopted it yet.
